Be part of Royals History and our Future.Royals Rugby is on the verge of something truly special - the completion of our new clubhouse; a state-of-the-art facility and permanent home for our players, supporters, and the rugby community for generations to come. While we are incredibly grateful to the ACT Government for funding the construction of the new premises, Royals is partially responsible for the fit out of the pavilion, including the bar, refrigeration, furniture, and audio- visual setup. The estimated cost of this is $120,000 and we are asking for your support to make it a reality. As a Foundation 2025...

Match Report | Round 15

Round 15, last game of the regular season and an opportunity to confirm our top 2 place heading into finals. This was an important game for Royals. Top two means we have at least two opportunities to make our way into the big dance, but more than that it’s continuity of momentum. Winning is a habit we are keen to lock in. Connal McInerney established early dominance for Royals with a try in the first 3 minutes of the game. Indeed the Blue Baggers never really dropped their intensity from that point on, scoring 5 tries in the first half and...

Match Report | Round 14

We all owe Jim Taylor a round of sincere thanks for booking us in with the Bureau of Meteorology for superb weather to celebrate 75 Years of Royals Rugby. On a very special day for the club our boys took to the field looking a treat in their old school cotton jerseys, having been primed and prepared by a pre-game chat from John Ross. We were expecting Uni to put in a strong showing this round after getting up over the Eagles last round, and through the first half that’s exactly what we got. Following several back to back penalties, Royals...

Match Report | Round 13

On one of the most bitterly cold days we’ve seen so far this year Royals headed across the border to take on Queanbeyan in their own backyard. Aside from the cold, it quickly became apparent Royals were keyed in and ready for the challenge crossing the try line for the first time in the third minute of the game, and then following that up with another five tries in the first half alone. And with Pedro knocking over every conversion attempt on offer, the Whites never really got an opportunity to get into this match. This week our forwards dominated...

Match Report | Round 12

An absolute game of contrasts this round with Royals struggling to get and maintain possession of the pill through the first half, while the Eagles racked up points with almost every visit to the southern end of the field. And in all fairness Nicholls enclosed ovals were somewhat of a hostile environment for the blue baggers, with the Eagles faithful entrenched at the Royals defensive end enjoying a few coldies for their Old Boys round and in good voice. The Eagles players were feeding on the atmosphere, playing good footy and in the Royals faces at every opportunity and with...

Match Report | Round 11

A perfect day for rugby unfolded this week and we were hoping to continue our winning form, but it was simply not to be. Vikings were too strong this round and we’ll need to make adjustments in response. For the first time this season all facets of our set piece were under pressure, which meant we also had to work harder in other aspects of the game to keep touch with our opposition. With a lopsided penalty count tipped their way Vikings had too many chances in our half and having put their nose in front, were able to maintain their...

Match Report | Round 10

Looking back at how this match played out it would be very easy to only focus on the final moments where Wests had the opportunity to steal the win with a late penalty goal. But the reality is Royals seemed the stronger of the two sides, and aside from a couple of lapses in discipline, seemed completely comfortable dealing with the down and dirty physical style of rugby Wests play. Pedro Rolando was masterful for Royals leading the pack around the park and taking full advantage of opportunities to slot points from the tee whenever they were on offer. James Bundy...

Match Report | Round 9

In a decisive match at ANU North Oval, Royals triumphed over Uni-Norths with a commanding score of 52 to 7. Royals were superiority throughout the game, scoring eight tries to Uni-Norths' single try, and Royals' forwards outmuscled Uni-Norths in the scrums and lineouts, providing a solid platform for their backs to launch effective attacks. Royals crossed the try line eight times, with standout performances from Zac Ross, who secured two tries, and an a penalty try which came from a scrum that clearly outclassed their opposition.  Jarrah McLeod and Angus Staniforth both scored remarkable tries in their final match before departing...

Match Report | Round 8

A welcome return back to Phillip for this rounds match up against Queanbeyan. And a home crowd made a world of difference. End result in our clash with the Whites tells the tale of a tough encounter through which both teams sought ascendancy, as Royals took a narrow victory 31-28. But the reality is Royals failed to respond to the direction being provided by the match officials. We didn’t adjust to consistent advice and gave Queanbeyan an advantage that kept them in this match into the dying stages. If not for this single aspect, our match report would be a glowing...

Vale | Brian Bourke ‘Bourkey’

The Canberra Royals Rugby community are deeply saddened by the news of Brian Bourke's ('Bourkey') passing. 'Bourkey' holds almost mythical status in Royals 75 year history.  'Bourkey' played juniors for Royals up until Under 18s. He then carved out a legendary rugby league career at the Queanbeyan Blues (Blues) from 1959 to 1976. 'Bourkey' also represented Monaro and NSW Country at a senior level in rugby league. As the Blues tribute says of 'Bourkey', 'Such was his stature in the local rugby league community, he was immortalised with a statue that still resides in the Queanbeyan Leagues Club'.  However, 'Bourkey's' major contribution...
