Royals secure three ACT and SNSW Community Rugby Awards.

Anderson Trophy for Sportsmanship – Ainsley Scrivener

Ainsley Scrivener is the embodiment of sportsmanship, both on and off the field. Known across the ACT & SNSW rugby community as a hard and fearless player, she balances this with kindness, respect, and generosity of spirit that sets her apart.

Ainsley leads by example as a member of the Canberra Royals’ senior leadership group and as team captain. She consistently receives praise and positive feedback from referees, opposition teams, and fellow players, who recognise her fairness, composure, and integrity in every match. Her reputation extends beyond her own club, with her approach to the game earning admiration and respect from across the competition.

Off the field, Ainsley is equally committed. She regularly assists with junior rugby, open days, and community events, sharing her knowledge, time, and encouragement with the next generation of players. Her ability to teach, mentor, and inspire reflects her deep commitment to the values of rugby and the spirit of the game.

Ainsley is not only an outstanding player but also an excellent leader, teacher, and ambassador for both the Royals and the Brumbies pathways. She embodies the true meaning of sportsmanship—fierce in competition, gracious in conduct, and always upholding the values of respect, teamwork, and integrity. For her remarkable contributions and the esteem in which she is held across the rugby community, Ainsley Scrivener is a most worthy nominee for the Anderson Trophy for Sportsmanship

ACT & SNSW Volunteer of the Year Award – Mark Young

Mark Young’s contribution to the Canberra Royals Rugby Club spans more than 40 years, covering playing, managing, administration, supporting, and leading in a way that is as quiet and unassuming as it is unmatched.

In official terms, his list of roles is extraordinary — First Grade Manager, Club Registrar, and Board Player Representative. Any one of these would be a substantial commitment, but Mark does them all with tireless dedication.

What makes Mark’s service truly exceptional is what happens beyond the titles. He is at every single training session and every single game — not because he has to be, but because he chooses to be. He ensures the water is filled, the change rooms are cleaned, and the gear is ready. He sets up before anyone arrives and packs down long after others have left. He has poured hundreds, if not thousands, of volunteer hours into running the bar, managing logistics, and keeping the club operating smoothly.

Mark’s greatest gift to the club, however, is the way he connects with people. He quietly checks in with players, offering guidance, support, and sometimes the feedback they need but don’t know how to ask for. His presence is steady, reassuring, and genuine. He never seeks recognition, never asks for anything in return, and never lets ego get in the way of service.

To have a volunteer like Mark is a privilege every club should hope to experience. His impact on the Royals is immeasurable, and his commitment to rugby in our region is beyond compare. There is no one more deserving of this honour — or any award for which he could possibly be nominated — than Mark Young.
